The Tennessee Vols could soon be adding a former five-star wide receiver to their already dangerous offense.

Tennessee is a strong contender for Bru McCoy, a former USC (and briefly Texas) wide receiver who has the potential to be one of the best players in the nation.

McCoy is taking an official visit to UT this weekend, and he's already listed in the Tennessee student directory (a good sign for the Vols, but that's not binding), so it would appear the Volunteers have a very good shot to land the highly-touted wide receiver.

McCoy missed his entire true freshman season in 2019 due to an illness. He caught 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns in six games during the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

The Santa Ana, CA native was suspended last season due to an off-season arrest for domestic violence. No charges were ever filed against McCoy.

If the Vols land McCoy, they'll be getting a 6-foot-3/220 lb wide receiver who is very physical in the passing game. McCoy has good hands, runs good routes, and he's very active as a run blocker. He's a solid all-around wide receiver that could create a ridiculous one-two punch in the Tennessee passing game along with Cedric Tillman.

Tennessee Vols' QB situation is a selling point under Josh Heupel

One of the reasons McCoy is strongly considering the Vols is the presence of quarterback Hendon Hooker.

According to 247Sports' Greg Biggins, McCoy wants to land at a program with an established quarterback.

"The Vols check off a lot of the boxes the family was looking for in a school including an offense that features the passing game, a talented returning quarterback, and a coaching staff the family trusted," wrote Biggins. "Depth chart was not going to play a big role as McCoy has always been confident he can play at any school in the country."

It's been a while since Tennessee's quarterback situation was a selling point, but that's the kind of impact Josh Heupel has on a program.
