The Tennessee Vols received some incredibly great news on Monday as 2023 five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava announced his commitment to UT.
Iamaleava is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 3 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class. He's a game-changing quarterback who has the potential to completely change the trajectory of the Tennessee football program.
Not only will Iamaleava be an important player on the field for the Vols on Saturdays, but he could also be the catalyst to UT landing a top 10 or even top 5 recruiting class.
Iamaleava told GoVols247 after his commitment that he went ahead and committed to Tennessee so he can start recruiting other elite players to Knoxville.
"I'm 100% locked and looking forward to help recruit and build this class," said the Vols' latest commit. "That's a big reason why I committed so early, I want to start recruiting for my class and help Tennessee bring in one of the top classes in the country."
The California native already has a couple of players in mind. Iamaleava told VolQuest's Austin Price that there are a couple of wide receivers he's eyeing.
Iamaleava noted that he wants to bring five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate and four-star wide receiver Kyler Kasper to Tennessee.
"I've built a core relationship with those two," said Iamaleava. "We talked about top schools and we were looking at it and Tennessee's in their top schools. We'll see what kind of pull I have. Those are some guys to get."
Tate, 6-foot-2/185 lbs from Chicago (he plays high school football at IMG Academy in Florida), is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 wide receiver in the country.
Kasper, 6-foot-5/195 lbs from Gilbert, AZ, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 18 wide receiver in the country.
An offense centered around Iamaleava, Tate, and Kasper is a College Football Playoff level offense.
If Nico and the Vols can pull off getting those two wide receivers in the commit column, it could be the beginning of a very special run for Tennessee.
