Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan likely made a lot of fans in East Tennessee this week.
Lewan took his "Bussin with the Boys" podcast on the road this week to visit the Tennessee Vols in Knoxville.
While in Knoxville, Lewan checked out a Tennessee football practice. And he came away VERY impressed with Josh Heupel and the Volunteers.
"We drive up there, I don’t know what to expect — orange is not my color," said Lewan on Wednesday during an interview on 104.5 The Zone's 3HL. "I don’t know what’s about to happen when we walk in this place. I was blown away. The facilities are unbelievable. Coach Heup is hype. He’s awesome. They let us go on the field. I was watching them do drills, I was watching them practice."
"I think the Vols got a squad this year," added Lewan. "Along with an amazing college, unbelievable facility. The campus is just fun all the way around, not to mention their baseball team is absolutely dominating the world right now."
Lewan was so impressed that the former Michigan standout told 104.5 The Zone that he's now a Volunteer.
“I love the culture," said Lewan. "I’m a Volunteer now….I’m officially part of the culture. I’m all about the Volunteers. They might be my SEC team now."
Lewan further endeared himself to Tennessee fans by throwing some shade at Kentucky.
The Titans star was asked about his recruitment and he mentioned that he wasn't offered by any SEC schools. Lewan then admitted that he was hoping to get an offer from an SEC program, as long as it wasn't Kentucky.
“I never got offered by any SEC school….In my head, it was any SEC school besides Kentucky," said Lewan.
Oddly enough, when Lewan signed with Michigan, the Wildcats were actually coming off a better season than Tennessee (in 2008, UK finished 7-6 while UT finished 5-7). But their reputation as being a cellar dweller in the SEC East was enough for Lewan to know he didn't want to end up in Lexington.
Praising the culture, coaching, and campus of Tennessee while making fun of Kentucky is a sure way to gain the admiration of Vols fans.
