Former Tennessee Vols star Dalton Knecht had a memorable showing in the Los Angeles Lakers 124-118 win against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.
Knecht, who was selected by the Lakers with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, scored 37 points while playing 38 minutes against the Jazz.
The former Vol connected on nine three-pointers while also collecting five rebounds.
After the game, Jazz head coach Will Hardy dropped one of the best quotes of the season while discussing Knecht's big performance.
"It seemed like everybody in the gym knew that Dalton Knecht was going to shoot the next shot with the exception of a few people," said Hardy. "The problem was that those few people were on our team."
What a quote.
Hardy sounds like a few college basketball coaches that had the misfortune of playing against Knecht last season.
Knecht scored 30 or more points eight times for the Vols last season, including in his last game in a Tennessee uniform (37 points against Purdue in the Elite Eight…his season high was 40 points against Kentucky).
A lot of NBA GMs are looking pretty foolish right now for letting Knecht slide all the way to the Lakers at No. 17 overall.
