Mike Keith, the new Voice of the Vols, will undoubtedly feel at home in the announcer booth next fall at Neyland Stadium while calling Tennessee football games.
Keith spent a decade working under legendary Vols announcer John Ward before spending the next 25 years calling Tennessee Titans football games. For Keith, calling football games is second nature.
Part of Keith's duties as the Voice of the Vols, however, will also include calling basketball games.
And calling basketball games isn't second nature to Keith, something he admitted this week during an appearance on the Everything Orange podcast.
"I'm a basketball fan," said Keith. "I've got a lot of work to do to polish my basketball — because it is 100 percent true that I have done more football and more baseball in my life than basketball. I have done it (basketball). The sport is not foreign to me, which I think will help. And there's time. That's one of the reasons I wanted to get on the ground here quickly. To be here and to be around the basketball [program], get a feeling for everything, have a chance to do some practices in a booth by myself."
Keith is a pro's pro. Even though Keith hasn't called basketball games in a long time, I'm sure he'll sound like a seasoned veteran basketball announcer when the Volunteers tip off the 2025-26 season next fall.
Mike Keith has already nailed one aspect of being the Voice of the Vols that will be important in 2025
