Tennessee Vols cornerback Colton Hood has been an extremely important player for UT football so far this season.

Hood, who started his college career at Auburn, transferred from Colorado to Tennessee during the spring transfer window.

Not a lot of impact players transfer in the spring, but Hood somehow slipped through the cracks and the Vols have been the benefactors.

The Georgia native has stepped up in a big way in Tennessee’s secondary through the first five games of the season — which has been especially important with cornerbacks Jermod McCoy and Rickey Gibson still sidelined.

Hood has been so good early this season that he’s already receiving some first round draft hype.

Colton Hood says he grew up with a key member of Tennessee’s baseball team

Hood, who played baseball in high school, appeared on the Everything Orange podcast this week and he revealed that he grew up with Tennessee outfielder/infielder Jay Abernathy.

“I’m definitely excited (about Tennessee baseball), said Hood. “I got a friend that I grew up with that plays on the baseball team — shout out Jay Abernathy. So I’m looking forward to watching him play.”

Abernathy was a true freshman for the Vols last season. He should play a much bigger role for Tennessee as a sophomore in 2026.

Hood and Abernathy both grew up playing baseball in Georgia, which is likely where their friendship was born.
