The Tennessee Vols have their best quarterback in recent memory. Hendon Hooker has led the team to a top five ranking and contention for the College Football Playoff.
Accordingly, Hooker is firmly in the Heisman Trophy race.
Against top competition, the Vols' quarterback is setting himself apart so far this season. Hooker is getting more opportunities against ranked teams, and he is taking advantage of those.
Of course, the top 25 will change. That being said, Hooker has dominated against any opponent, ranked or not.
Many believe that Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud is alongside Hooker as the top two contenders for the Heisman. Stroud has not played a ranked team as of right now. So, there is a clear distinction for the difficulty of schedule in Hooker's favor so far.
The most impressive part of Hooker's game this season may be his deep ball. He's always been wildly athletic, but he is much more polished than he was in previous seasons.
Josh Heupel and Hooker have been hard at work. It's paying off for the both of them.
Hooker is dominating almost every single statistical category in the SEC. No other SEC QB provides the balanced game that Hooker does right now on the ground and through the air.
Going forward, the Vols' game against the Georgia defense could solidify his Heisman reign. If Hooker has another fantastic performance against a top defense in the country, it will be difficult for another player to overtake him for the Heisman by season's end.
