The Tennessee Vols avoided a sweep on Saturday by taking down the Florida Gators.
Tennessee salvaged the three-game series against the Gators via a 14-2 win.
The Vols are now 22-10 on the season and 5-7 in the SEC.
Tennessee obviously isn't on the same torrid pace that they were on a year ago at this time, but that hasn't dampened the enthusiasm in the Vols' dugout.
This Tennessee team still believes they can accomplish something special this year despite the up-and-down start to the 2023 season.
After the win against Florida, Vols outfielder Griffin Merritt made it clear that he's confident in Tennessee's ability to make some noise in the postseason.
Merritt even suggested that the Vols could be a team that no one wants to see in Hoover.
"The corner will be turned," said Merritt on Saturday.
"If this team just keeps trending upwards, nobody in the country is going to want to see us in their regional if we’re not hosting," added Merritt. "Nobody is going to want to play us in Hoover. For us, it's finding a way to play good baseball."
It's very apparent that this Tennessee team has the confidence necessary to win a national championship. And Saturday's blowout win over Florida shows they have the talent, too.
The Vols just have to find a way to be consistent. And if they can do that, then Merritt will be right — no one will want to see Tennessee in Hoover.
