With the start of the 2024 college football season just days away, Pro Football Focus ranked the 70 starting quarterbacks at each Power-Four program.
And they have Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava at No. 24 in their rankings, with the caveat that the California native could vault up the list with a great 2024 season.
From PFF: Iamaleava may be in the top 10, or even the top five, of this list at this time next year. He has the requisite tools and is the perfect player to run a Josh Heupel-coached offense. He was terrific in his lone start last season, torching Iowa to the tune of an 85.0 PFF passing grade and four total touchdowns. If he finds his timing and pocket presence, he could be a dark-horse Heisman candidate.
This is a situation where it seems like PFF thinks Iamaleava should probably be ranked higher. But the redshirt freshman only has one career start under his belt (against Iowa in the Citrus Bowl), so they likely want to see more from Iamaleava before putting him near the top of their rankings. And that's certainly more than fair.
Iamaleava will make his first career start at Neyland Stadium on August 31 when the Vols open the 2024 season against Chattanooga.
