The Tennessee Vols finished the season ranked No. 17 in both the final AP Top 25 poll and the Coaches Top 25 poll.
Former Vols head coach Butch Jones, who is currently the head coach at Arkansas State, didn't have Tennessee at No. 17 on his final Coaches Poll ballot.
But he didn't straight up disrespect the Vols, either.
According to Vols Wire, Jones had Tennessee at No. 18 on his final ballot, which is respectable for a program that went 9-4 this past season.
Oddly, though, Jones ranked Alabama, a team that lost in the College Football Playoff semifinals to Michigan, at No. 2.
I'm not sure how you can justify putting Alabama at No. 2 above Washington, a team that lost one game and played in the national championship. Or how you can put them above Texas, a team that Alabama lost to in the regular season (the Longhorns lost to Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinal).
It's worth noting that Jones spent a few seasons as an off-field assistant under Nick Saban at Alabama and he still speaks fondly of his time in Tuscaloosa.
