The Tennessee Vols are one of several teams in the mix to land 2024 five-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin.

Franklin, 6-foot-5/265 lbs from Lake Cormorant, MS, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 6 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Mississippi. He's also rated as the No. 30 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

Earlier this month, Franklin revealed his top five schools and he included Tennessee, along with Auburn, Florida State, Miami, and Ole Miss.

Franklin took an official visit to Tennessee this past weekend that reportedly went very well.

"I've been there a couple times, but I took my grandma up there for the first time," said Franklin to Rivals on his visit to UT. "Seeing how much she enjoyed it and how they prioritized her and my family. They let me know that I'm their number one guy."

Those comments fall in line with what Franklin told On3 back in May.

“Coach Garner, Coach Chop, and Coach Heupel all recruit me hard at Tennessee and they have multiple coaches who recruit me almost every day,” said Franklin to On3 earlier this spring. “I’ve visited Tennessee four or five times and it’s great up there. Like Miami, the people at Tennessee are great and my relationships there are strong."

“They had a great season last year and that showed me a lot, too," added Franklin. "Coach Heupel has them going in the right direction and Tennessee always lets me know that I’m not just a want, but a need. They want to build that defensive line around me.”

Franklin told Rivals.com that all five of his top schools are on "the same ground" and he's not in a rush to commit. So this sounds like a battle that could continue throughout the 2023 season.

Tennessee has some work to do to land Franklin, but the good news for the Vols is that it sounds like they're very much in the mix to land the coveted five-star recruit.

What Vols head coach Josh Heupel said to draw a flag on the sidelines

In the first half of the Tennessee Vols' matchup against the Clemson Tigers in the Orange Bowl, UT head coach Josh Heupel drew a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct after a quarterback sneak by Joe Milton. Heupel said something to the official right after the play and that's why he was flagged. For much of the […]
