The Tennessee Vols saw three of their players get drafted on night one of the 2022 MLB Draft. They expect many more to go today and tomorrow. RHP Ben Joyce was just selected by the Los Angeles Angels. The team with two of the most electric talents in the baseball world just added the most exciting college pitcher to their system.
Joyce is known for consistently throwing his fastball in the triple digits. There were multiple times this season where he hit 104 MPH. He even hit 105.5 MPH in one appearance this season in the Vols bullpen.
Why is it a perfect fit?
It makes total sense for Joyce to go to the Angels. They have two of the most unbelievable, unique talents that the MLB has ever seen. Slugger and ace Shohei Ohtani is the only two-way superstar in the league right now. He is doing legendary stuff right before our eyes.
Mike Trout is one of the most well-rounded, consistent players that the MLB has ever seen. Trout may end up being the greatest player in league history by the end of his career. He is already considered to be one of the greatest baseball talents ever by many.
Adding Ben Joyce just creates an even more intriguing group for the Angels. It's very likely that he pitches in their bullpen in 2023. Joyce is one of the most MLB-ready arms in the draft due to his ridiculously impressive velocity. His low 90's slider looks really good at times, too. His command needs work, but he has all the tools in the tool bag to be a dominant reliever at the next level.
Accordingly, look out for highlights from Joyce alongside Ohtani and Trout for years to come. The Angels just got a special arm from the Vols.
