The 2024 NFL trade deadline is almost here.
Teams across the league have already completed over a half dozen trades ahead of the Tuesday, Nov. 5 deadline, and more are expected in the coming days. Which teams could be sellers at the deadline? What positions could be the most coveted? Which players could be on the move to new teams?
Find the answers to those questions below. . .
The wide receiver market is expected to be the most active during the NFL trade deadline
The wide receiver market has already been the hottest in the NFL ahead of the trade deadline with WRs Davante Adams (Jets), Amari Cooper (Bills), and WR DeAndre Hopkins (Chiefs) already being dealt. With continued injuries at the wide receiver position across the league, this position could stay hot until Tuesday's deadline.
After acquiring Adams, it was reported that Jets WR Mike Williams would wind up on the trade block. Some have suggested a potential reunion with the Los Angeles Chargers, but his lack of success and production in New York has made it challenging to find a trade partner.
Panthers WR Diontae Johnson was sent to the Baltimore Ravens shortly after we published this article. Panthers WR Adam Thielen could be next on the trading block for Carolina, and perhaps land in the AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers seeking to solidify their offense.
A hot name after "Monday Night Football" is Giants WR Darius Slayton. He has done enough in recent weeks to raise his trade value and could wind up being the next player dealt.
New England has proven they've been willing to deal, and Patriots WRs K.J. Osborn and Kendrick Bourne could wind up as trade targets for wide receiver-needy teams as a result. The hope would be that they can perform better with new homes and new quarterbacks throwing them the ball.
Jaguars WR Christian Kirk is a player who would have been on the trade block if not for a broken collarbone that will cause him to miss the remainder of the 2024 NFL season. Perhaps Cleveland would be willing to move another player from this position? Browns WR Elijah Moore could be another target for teams looking to make an addition to their wide receiver room.
The pass-rusher market offers a good blend of veterans and up-and-comers
The Chiefs' trade to acquire DE/LB Joshua Uche from the New England Patriots seems to have kicked off the market for edge rushers, which features a good spattering of veterans and ascending players.
Even coming off an upset win over the Ravens, Browns DE Za'Darius Smith could be dealt. He already said he'd love to play for the Detroit Lions for the simple reason of playing the Packers and Vikings (both his former teams) twice a year. The Lions, of course, lost DE Aidan Hutchinson to a broken leg. His former teammate, Packers DE Preston Smith, has also been the subject of trade rumors. His contract might make it difficult for an acquiring team.
Saints DE Cam Jordan has seemingly reached his breaking point after the team's Week 8 loss. It'd be hard to imagine him forcing his way out of New Orleans, but a team looking for a veteran edge rusher might be able to concoct a deal.
With their offense in utter disarray, Giants DE Azeez Ojulari could be coveted in trade. The 24-year-old has six sacks on the season and could net a Day 2 pick from a team looking to bolster their pass rush long-term.
Another young player who could be on the move is Saints DE Chase Young. The 25-year-old has two sacks and 30 pressures on the year and is in the midst of a one-year prove-it deal with a bad New Orleans team. If the Saints can get a mid-round draft pick comparable to what they'd gain in 2026 as a compensatory pick, they might be willing to move Young.
The cornerback market leaves something to be desired
The old adage in the NFL is that you can never have too many good cornerbacks. Teams are feeling that right now because the cornerback market isn't exactly flush with talented players.
A former first-round draft pick in Rams CB Tre'Davious White has been granted permission to seek a trade. He's underperformed this season and hasn't quite been right since ACL and Achilles injuries in Buffalo.
During "Monday Night Football" in Week 8, Giants CB Deonte Banks was benched after being hurdled by Steeler RB Najee Harris. It has led some to speculate that the former 2023 first-round draft pick could be available in trade. This would likely cost a lot for the acquiring team in terms of trade compensation as he's a young and talented player.
Fourth-year veteran, Jets CB Brandin Echols, could be made available in trade after overperforming in New York in 2024. He has two interceptions on the season and is in the final year of his rookie deal, but he also has some off-field baggage that teams might shy away from.
While Saints CB Marshon Lattimore has seen his name floated as a potential trade candidate, acquiring the lockdown corner from New Orleans would understandably take a lot.
The offensive line market could be slim pickings
There has been no indication that Jacksonville is ready to wave the white flag on Doug Pederson and Press Taylor's offense. Jaguars OT Cam Robinson and OL Brandon Scherff might be the best offensive linemen available in trade should Shahid Khan decide it's time to punt on the season. Scherff is a five-time Pro Bowler who could instantly upgrade any team's offensive interior. Robinson has been solid during his career, but a little injury-prone. He's recently been supplanted by Walker Little, which shows Jacksonville might be willing to move on for the right price.
As far as other teams are concerned, Raiders OL Andrus Peat has been the subject of trade talks before when he was with the Saints, but with an offense that already is struggling to stay on track, it's hard to imagine Las Vegas parting ways. Packers OT Andre Dillard has been in a reserve role behind Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker, which could make him a target, but it's hard to see the 6-2 team part with a reserve linemen.
