The Chicago Bears have finally made a decision with veteran wide receiver DJ Moore with the expectation that Moore will be traded to the Buffalo Bills, with the compensation still being discussed by the two teams.

It’s a massive move by the Bears moving on from a top-tier wide receiver, but it was the right move. Moore’s stats steadily declined throughout his three years in Chicago and he was in line to have the highest-cap hit on the team in 2026. Those are the facts, regardless of how people inside the building felt about Moore as a player and as a person. From the business-side of things, it was the right move.

The concern now is that general manager Ryan Poles just put the team’s future in jeopardy if the Bears want to make a splash before free agency.

DJ Moore trade changes how a Maxx Crosby trade could look for the Chicago Bears

Trading Moore frees up $16 million in cap space for the Bears, along with having another $10 added following the retirement of Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman. That’s some serious space to work with and adds intrigue to the possibility of adding an impact defensive player like Maxx Crosby.

The only problem with trading for someone like Crosby is the package needed to give the Las Vegas Raiders what they want. As of yesterday, it seemed like Moore could be added to the deal for the Raiders when it came to Chicago possibly landing Crosby, but that’s no longer an option.

Now, if the Bears want to go forward with a Crosby trade, the team’s future will be in jeopardy. Las Vegas reportedly wants a Micah Parsons-like offer to even entertain moving Crosby, which means multiple first-round picks and a player. A player of Moore’s caliber could have lowered that price and tempted the Raiders into landing a top wide receiver for their rookie quarterback.

If the Bears still want Crosby, it’s going to take multiple-firsts and maybe even throwing in linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. That’s the team’s future we’re talking out just to land a 28-year-old pass rusher. We’ll see what happens, but this trade with Moore could spell disaster if Poles gets aggressive.
