The Chicago Bears general manager is continuing to do his early due diligence on the 2024 NFL Draft class.
The Bears top executive was spotted in Evanston, Illinois this morning getting a first-hand look at a couple of top prospects during the Penn State-Northwestern game.
The short, hour-ish long, drive down to Evanston continues to build up interest for the upcoming draft. The Bears have started the season 0-3 and currently have two picks in the top four selections, according to Tankathon.
Poles is likely setting his sights early on Penn State left tackle Olu Fashanu. Fashanu is considered to be a future top five selection in this year's draft by many top NFL draft experts.
Penn State's top offensive prospect has yet to allow a sack since the start of the 2022 season, including their first eight games this year, and currently has a career high 73.5 offensive grade in 2023, according to Pro Football Focus.
The 6'6, 319 pound left tackle has the perfect movement skills and football IQ to project into an immediate starter at the next level. He will also be a young prospect (21-years-old) by the time April's draft arrives.
Poles elected to go with an offensive tackle in last year's draft in Darnell Wright and it's proven to be worth the high pick through the first three games of the season. Wright has started at right tackle in every game and has filled a much needed spot on the team's unit up-front.
Poles could go that route again in 2024 with one of his two first round picks, considering the team has allowed 13 sacks through the first three weeks of the season. Fashanu could be the perfect choice to take over as the team's franchise left tackle and give Chicago two top prospects to bookend their offensive line long term.
Here's a list of other potential prospects that Poles could look to file away in his 2024 draft folder after viewing today's game.
