The Chicago Bears have been the talk of the town throughout the first two days of the NFL Scouting Combine with trade news swirling around LB Tremaine Edmunds, QB Tyson Bagent, and perhaps WR DJ Moore.

All of this attention is something general manager Ryan Poles said he expected and he’s willing to listen to any and all offers this week as the team looks to clear some cap space and find ways to improve the roster coming off a season that included an NFC North title and a postseason berth.

It’s not something people in Chicago are used to, and Poles is even learning how to adapt to the new direction this franchise is heading in.

“This is a unique situation where we’ve gotten our roster in a position where we have a lot of talented players, a lot of guys getting paid well, and that puts some constraints on the cap,” Poles said Tuesday. “So we got to make some tough decisions.”

Ultimately, the Bears are still in a really good position this year, regardless of the tough decisions that have to be made. It truly is an exciting time for the Chicago Bears and it’s being well acknowledged.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah believes the Bears are in a great spot this offseason

“I’d be excited if I was Chicago,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday. “Most times, you’re a team in the past that’s had some struggles and you come in here like ‘gosh we hope we have the right coach, we hope our quarterback’s going to pan out or we’re looking for a quarterback.’ So, having those pillars taken care of, this is the easy part.”

Jeremiah hit the nail on the head and it’s similar to the talk we heard during Super Bowl week. For the first time in years, the Bears have the right head coach and quarterback in place in Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams. Those two alone can sustain success for this team for years to come, but the Bears still have to continue building out the rest of the roster.

The Bears enter into NFL Combine week with plenty of needs, primarily on the defensive side of the ball at all three levels. The main needs are at the safety position and adding more talent to the defensive line. Even still, Jeremiah believes the Bears are well equipped to address those areas.

“Finding safeties who can run or cover, you’re going to find those every draft in the second, third, fourth-round,” Jeremiah added. “There’s going to be options for you of guys who can come in and play and contribute. Get some dynamic edge rushers, this is a good draft to do that. And if you’re looking at the safety position, Day 2 and even into the fourth-round there’s good players.”

In the first-round, Poles expressed his desire to keep a “best player available” approach with the 25th overall pick but added the team would weigh needs after the first-round. Coming out of Day 1 with the best prospect on the board and then capitalizing on the depth at EDGE is a smart strategy. As for safety, the third and fourth-rounds seem like an obvious range to land an impactful player.
