After a preseason tie in the opener against the Miami Dolphins, the Chicago Bears are now turning the attention toward another AFC East opponent in the Buffalo Bills who are coming to town this week led by reigning MVP quarterback Josh Allen.

In the preseason opener, the Bears and Bills sat the majority of the starters out of the game, including their starting quarterbacks. It’s yet to be determined if a similar plan will unfold this week.

Regardless, it’s another opportunity for other players on the roster to stand out in hopes of securing a final roster spot ahead of the season. Below is how fans can tune into the matchup.

Bears Players To Watch

Just like last week, the Bears will host a joint practice against the Bills prior to the preseason game. We will see if head coach Ben Johnson follows a similar process when it comes to playing his starters, including quarterback Caleb Williams. Since it’s still unknown, here are four non-starters to watch.

RB Ian Wheeler – On Sunday, second-year running back Ian Wheeler got to play in an NFL game for the first time since tearing his ACL in the preseason finale last season. Wheeler totaled 20 yards on seven carries and had one touchdown called back due to a penalty on another player. The last time Wheeler faced the Bills in the preseason, he totaled 43 yards and two touchdowns.

TE Colston Loveland – The Bears first-round selection played just six snaps in the preseason opener, catching one of his two targets for eight yards on third-and-long. The team’s head coach noted he wanted Colston Loveland to just get his feet wet. I’m sure we’ll see more of him this week.

LB Ruben Hyppolite II – The fourth-round rookie linebacker saw a lot more action on Sunday playing 31 defensive snaps and 10 special teams snaps. Ruben Hyppolite II was flying around like a missile out there and finished the game with five defensive tackles, including one for a loss. Being able to stack some solid games together in consecutive weeks would be ideal for the speedy rookie.

CB Terell Smith – One of the tightest battles happening on the roster right now is at the outside cornerback position between multiple players. Terell Smith is one player I’m going to watch this weekend. Smith was targeted once on Sunday and should have had a pick-six had he held onto the ball. I’m sure he’s wanting to make up for that minor mistake in the second game.
