Ben Johnson's offense with the Chicago Bears is still being ironed out schematically and who the team adds to the unit during the 2025 NFL Draft will certainly decide some of the directions he will go in building his new playbook.
Top weapons such as RB Ashton Jeanty and TE Tyler Warren continue to be mocked to the team in the first-round with the 10th overall pick.
Both players would be weapons beyond their listed position and have the ability to be used all over the field with a creative mind like Johnson calling the offense.
In regards to Warren, Johnson considered the Penn State tight end to be "the definition of a football player" and defensive coordinator Dennis Allen relayed how hard it would be to gameplan going up against a guy like that.
Given Warren's ability to play outside, in the slot, and in the backfield, Johnson could do a lot with him schematically. Based on his interest in Warren and the amount of ties to Sean Payton on the offensive coaching staff, Johnson could be looking for his own version of Taysom Hill in a player like Warren.
Hill is a Swiss-army knife for the New Orleans Saints offense given his ability to block, catch, run, pass, and even return. The guy is a unicorn that hasn't be replicated around the league, yet.
Warren could be the next version of that, but there's another prospect in the 2025 Draft who would be available much later and provide a similar role to what Hill provides in New Orleans the Bears should also consider.
Is the next Taysom Hill in the 2025 Draft?
That player is Texas Tech tight end Jalin Conyers, and according to Gary Ross, the Bears are already showing interest in potentially drafting him.
Conyers projects to be a Day 3 selection, likely in the fifth or sixth round of the draft, and shined during the 2025 Scouting Combine. And if he lands in the right offense, with the right play-caller, he's going to be a steal.
Conyers dominated with his versatility and run after the catch ability, two traits Johnson has praised in his offense time after time since being hired by the Bears.
With Texas Tech, Conyers played as the big slot, an H-back, and in-line. He’s even taken direct snaps as a quarterback AND threw two touchdowns last season (he was a former QB in high school).
The best part of Conyers' game is that he can do anything at the next level, which includes trick plays, playing some fullback, or contributing in general pass protection. He's the ideal secret weapon for any creative play-caller.
If the Bears miss out on Warren in the first round, circling back to a guy like Conyers in the fifth round would be an awesome move to make and the possibilities of using him would be endless.
