The Kansas City Chiefs just won the Super Bowl yet their biggest rival still can't stop yapping.
The Chiefs just beat the Jacksonville Jaguars with Mahomes on one leg to advance to the AFC Championship. They then beat the Cincinnati Bengals to advance to the Super Bowl, where they would win the Lombardi Trophy once again.
The Bengals, who are considered by many to be the Chiefs' biggest rival, have never won a Super Bowl in their team's history. Yet, for some reason, they feel the need to keep talking trash to the Chiefs because they beat them twice in the regular season and once in the postseason.
Even in the offseason, they are still talking, and the season hasn't even kicked off yet.
"I mean I loved it, because, you know, we have a nice little rivalry with the Chiefs and to see him come over, you know, it's like we one-upped them," Tyler Boyd told the media when asked about signing Orlando Brown Jr. "But at the end of the day, you know, he's a great player. No matter what, we are here to win. He's one of the best at his position, you know just adding him to who we got already, you know it's going to allow Burrow to have more time that's going to give us the will to put up those points, you know so, I'm just happy to have him."
They didn't "one-up" the Chiefs by any means. The Chiefs did not want to bring Brown back. They had no interest in doing so, and they probably made the right decision as he just wasn't very good last year.
He allowed Patrick Mahomes to be pressured 47 times last year, which is five more than what Jonah Williams allowed, their left tackle in 2022. Will he be an upgrade over Williams? Most likely. However, going from a bad offensive lineman to an okay offensive lineman and overpaying him doesn't mean you "one-upped" a team that just won the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs went and got a guy who had nearly the same product as Donovan Smith in an injury-riddled year for far less money. Then they got an elite right tackle in Jawaan Taylor. Now, are there some questions within the group? For sure, but the Chiefs no longer wanted Brown for a reason.
Either way, the rivalry is exciting, and videos and quotes like this definitely help fuel it. The Chiefs hadn't had a real rivalry inside their division in years, so it's nice to have another team to feud with.
