And it begins, the revenge tour that is. The Kansas City Chiefs are now tasked with defeating the Cincinnati Bengals, after losing to them three straight times. Sure, there is some nervousness there, as there should be. You lose and you go home. And you can't lose to this team again.
These may very well be the two best quarterbacks in the NFL, and they both know it. While the Chiefs aren't blowing everyone out, they are better than they were last year.
The defense is so much better and is getting hot at the right time. Mahomes is taking what the defense gives him, and he isn't going for the home run ball all the time, but, that is still there too. And the run game, the Chiefs actually have a run game.
But, who's to say the Bengals aren't a better team this time around either?
"I think we are a more complete team," Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow told the media after their win over Buffalo. "I think we are a better team. We just seem to make plays when it counts. That's all there is to say."
I mean, of course, he is going to say that. But, the thing is, they look better too. They are beating very good teams very badly. They manhandled the Bills on Sunday night. They made us sort of forget how good the Bills were too.
Cincinnati has a very good run game with Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine. Their ability to not have negative plays, or get tackled for a loss I should say, helps when it comes to third downs. They set up the play-action game perfectly. Oh, and they can pass-block pretty well too.
They also have the best wide receiver trio in the league, and probably the best wide receiver left in the postseason in Ja'Marr Chase. Their offensive line has been struggling with injuries, but even their backups blocked well against Buffalo.
The Bengals' defense is playing some of their best ball right now too. Overall, just like always the Chiefs will have their hands full with Cincy. But, all that is to say the Chiefs can still beat the Bengals. It isn't impossible, by any means.
Let's start with if Mahomes is healthy and mobile, which we all hope he will be, this will be a game. No matter what field he steps on he is the best player in the league.
The Chiefs' defense has to create turnovers if they want to win this game, and they can't turn the ball over. Let me put it like this- if Travis Kelce doesn't fumble the last time these two teams played each other, Kansas City likely scored, as they were in a position to, and they win the game.
The Bengals aren't the only team who has gotten better since last season. But, either way, Joe Burrow is sending a message. How will the Chiefs respond?
