Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills was a game that we will always remember for the Kansas City Chiefs. The infamous offensive offsides call, which hasn't been called on the Chiefs since 1995, took away what was one of the coolest plays we have ever seen.
Was Kadarious Toney offside? Yes. No one is arguing he wasn't. People are arguing now that he didn't get a warning from the referee that he was offsides when the referee gave every receiver a warning for every single snap. Does he have to give a warning? No, but it is somewhat of an unwritten rule
Fans are not upset that the call was called, generally speaking, but that the NFL has been so inconsistent in calling penalties like this one this season. This has been the worst season we have seen of NFL officiating, and it isn't really close.
The very next play after the Toney offsides call proves that.
On 2nd and 10, Toney lined up far into the Bills zone, and the play was called back. On 3rd and 15, the very next play, Von Miller was offsides, with his head past the ball, and even left early before the snap. However, nothing was called. You can see in the story's featured image that he was indeed offsides before the ball was snapped.
But, as if they didn't just see an offsides call, they missed Miller. It happens; they are humans, but let's be consistent at our jobs, at least the very next play.
The Chiefs lost last week on some very bad no-calls, as everyone saw. They said nothing, and Patrick Mahomes even said that the NFL and officials were letting the players play. After this game, he was fed up, as evidenced by his screaming at the refs after the play.
Earlier in the fourth quarter, with about 10 minutes left, the Bills rewarded another cheap call on what was said to be a catch by Latavius Murray when he very clearly did not have possession of the ball. Give Josh Alen credit because the play was great by him, but it's another instance of inconsistent officiating.
The Chiefs were going to be in a situation like this eventually; it was just a matter of when.
