If you haven't yet had a chance to take a peep at the schedule, the Kansas City Chiefs are playing the Houston Texans in Week 15. That's not a big deal, I mean, the Chiefs have played them, a ton over the last few years.
But, the Chiefs are playing in Texas this time, something they have not done since 2017. They also have not played in Houston since 2017. Against the Cowboys and Texans, Mahomes was listed as the backup quarterback in 2017.
This will be Mahomes' first time playing in his home state which should bring a little more to his game on Sunday.
“Yeah, I have a couple extra people coming, but it’s the first time playing in the state of Texas (in the NFL)," Mahomes said. "I went to the Cowboys stadium my first year when we played down there and didn’t get to play but to get down to Houston it’s like a three-hour trip – three-and-a-half-hour trip from Tyler, Texas. I’m sure there will be more people that I know that are coming down to watch the game. It’ll be cool to kind of see some people and they’ll get to see me play in my home state, for sure.”
There is definitely a bit more fire for Mahomes coming into this game. He won't say it, but anyone else would feel that same way. He has more family than the usual coming, and he is playing in his home state.
I mean, let's be honest, if you give Mahomes more to play for, that has got to be a scary sight. Let's also add in the fact he played badly last week. It could get ugly for the Texans on Sunday.
