Aaron Rodgers reveals that his long-term plans still involve Green Bay, and his comments caught fans by surprise
Quarterback now plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers and will play Green Bay on Sunday, but he understands his deep connection with the Packers.
The Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers parted ways two years ago, when the team traded him away to the New York Jets. Now, Rodgers is with the Pittsburgh Steelers and will face the Packers for the first time on Sunday.
However, Rodgers’ future plans still involve the Packers. In an interview with Green Bay local media on Thursday, the veteran quarterback revealed that he will eventually return to finish his career in some way, shape, or form with the first franchise he played for.
“I feel so good about my time there, because damn near everything great in my life is because of my football career,” Rodgers said. “My football career starts and will end one day with Green Bay. I got a lot of love for all those memories.”
It will be a beautiful moment
Aaron Rodgers will probably never play football for the Packers even again, but the quarterback and the organization are close enough, even despite some tough final years, where Rodgers will be back to receive his well-deserved recognition some day.
Brett Favre’s relationship with the organization and with Packers fans became much more complicated because he decided to play for the Minnesota Vikings. And because Rodgers has only played for AFC teams outside of Green Bay, it will be much easier to eventually reconnect.
It’s unclear how the Packers will manage Aaron Rodgers’ return, but there are multiple opportunities to recognize his greatness and his contributions to the franchise during an 18-year tenure.
Maybe it’s a one-day contract to finish his career as a member of the organization. Certainly, it will be retiring number 12 and getting him into the Packers Hall of Fame — most likely, a player of Rodgers’ stature deserves all of it.
On Sunday, though, nothing of that will matter. The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers will be on opposite sides in Pittsburgh, and both will badly want a win to make sure they look better on the other end of the separation — even if their connection is much bigger and deeper than a game.
