The NFL's cut-down deadline has come and passed, and the Indianapolis Colts have their initial 53-man roster for the 2024 season.
The team made multiple roster moves to get to this point. Just 53 players remain on the team's active roster ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Houston Texans.
Colts 2024 initial 53-man roster
While the Colts finalized their initial 53-man roster, it's important to note the significance of the word "initial." The team has been active on the waiver wire following roster cuts in recent years, which has shaken up a few roster spots. So, while the players below all made the team's initial 53-man roster, that is subject to change ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Texans.
Offense:

Quarterbacks: (3)
1. Anthony Richardson
2. Joe Flacco
3. Sam Ehlinger
Notable cuts: Jason Bean
Running backs: (3)
1. Jonathan Taylor
2. Trey Sermon
3. Tyler Goodson
The most shocking cut by the Colts this year was, without a doubt, second-year RB Evan Hull. The Colts chose to go with only three RBs on the initial 53-man roster. Both Goodson and Hull had strong preseason and training camps. I'm sure Hull is someone the Colts would love to make it back to their practice squad, but his ability as a pass catcher in college could lead to a team poaching him on the waiver wire.
Notable cuts: Evan Hull, Zavier Scott
Wide Receivers: (6)
1. Michael Pittman Jr.
2. Josh Downs
3. Adonai Mitchell
4. Alec Pierce
5. Anthony Gould
6. Ashton Dulin
Notable cuts: D.J. Montgomery, Laquon Treadwell
Tight Ends: (4)
1. Kylen Granson
2. Mo Alie-Cox
3. Drew Ogletree
4. Will Mallory
* Jelani Woods placed on season-ending IR
Notable cuts: Jordan Murray
Offensive Linemen: (10)
1. Bernhard Raimann, LT
2. Quenton Nelson, LG
3. Ryan Kelly, C
4. Will Freis, RG
5. Braden Smith, RT
6. Matt Goncalves, OT
7. Blake Freeland, OT
8. Tanor Bortolini, C/G
9. Dalton Tucker, G
10. Danny Pinter, C/G
The Colts ended up doing the easiest and probably best thing on the offensive line with them keeping all ten players who had a shot at making the roster. Most notably, the team is keeping undrafted free agent Dalton Tucker, who had a fantastic training camp and preseason. The young player was arguably the team's best reserve interior lineman.
Notable cuts: NA
Defense:

Defensive linemen: (9)
1. Kwity Paye, Edge
2. DeForest Buckner, DT
3. Grover Stewart, DT
4. Laiatu Latu, Edge
5. Tyquan Lewis, Edge
6. Dayo Odeyingbo, Edge
7. Adetomiwa Adebawore, DT
8. Isaiah Land, Edge
9. Raekwon Davis, DT
10. Taven Bryan, DT
* Samson Ebukam placed on IR (designated to return)
The Colts' defensive line didn't have any shockers on their initial 53-man roster. But the team's decision to place Ebukam on the designated to return IR instead of the season-ending IR was a big win. This allows him to return and join a stacked group on the team's defensive line. At DT, the team chose to roll with Bryan over 2024 7th-round pick Jonah Laulu, which I think is a mistake.
Notable cuts: Titus Leo, Jonah Laulu, Eric Johnson II
Linebackers: (5)
1. Zaire Franklin
2. E.J. Speed
3. Segun Olubi
4. Jaylon Carlies
5. Grant Stuard
* Cameron McGrone placed on IR (designated to return)
Notable cuts: Craig Young, Austin Ajiake
Cornerbacks: (5)
1. Kenny Moore II
2. Juju Brents
3. Jaylon Jones
4. Dallis Flowers
5. Darrell Baker Jr.
The Colts' biggest shockers at CB were cutting Chris Lammons, as well as rookies Micah Abraham and Jaylin Simpson. Both Simpson and Abraham had their flashes throughout training camp and the preseason. But it seems it wasn't enough for either rookie to land a roster spot in a think CB room. Lammons had a strong preseason as both a nickel CB and a special teamer. This move allows the Colts to keep their duo of 2024 NFL Draft picks, Simpson and Abraham, off the waiver wire. I wouldn't be shocked if the Colts brought Lammons back after finalizing their roster over the next couple of days.
Notable cuts: Chris Lammons, Jaylin Simpson, Micah Abraham
Safties: (4)
1. Julian Blackmon
2. Nick Cross
3. Trevor Denbow
4. Rodney Thomas II
Notable cuts: Ronnie Harrison Jr.
Special Teams: (3)
1. Matt Gay, K
2. Rigoberto Sanchez, P
3. Luke Rhodes, LS
Notable cuts: Spencer Shrader, K
