Emotions on both sides of the field will likely be heightened during today's Week 1 matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans. Both sides have shared that they have some extra motivation fueling them ahead of this matchup.

The Colts and Texans will kick off at 1 p.m. EST today, but before they do, I have some predictions for how this highly anticipated game will go for the Colts.

Predictions for the Colts Week 1 matchup with the Colts

Anthony Richardson's first regular season game back from injury

Prediction: 3 or more total touchdowns

Anthony Richardson is making his long-awaited return to an NFL regular season game today. He will be the Colts starting quarterback for the first time since Week 5 of last season. He was only able to play just under a half of football against the Texans before a concussion would take him out of the game. Before leaving, though, he looked to be on track for the special day, especially on the ground. Richardson rushed for 35 yards and two touchdowns on just three rushes, as well as completing six of his ten pass attempts for 56 yards. And helped the Colts jump out to a big 28-10 half-time lead they ultimately held on to win the matchup.

He had to watch from the sideline as the team couldn't win their second matchup against the Texans last year in Week 18. I think he comes back with a vengeance by finishing what he started against the Texans last year. I'm predicting he ends the day with at least three touchdowns on the day and shows his doubters just how dynamic of a player he not only can be, but is right now.

The Colts' pass rush lives up to the hype

Prediction: Laiatu Latu gets on the board with his first regular-season sack

The Colts are betting big on their pass rush this season by not investing any capital on any players expected to play a serious role in their questionable secondary. For their defense to be a success, their pass rush is going to have to disrupt opposing QBs and not allow them to pick apart their young secondary. And while I disagree with the team not adding to their secondary, I do think their pass rush has the chance to be a special group in 2024. A big reason for that is rookie Laiatu Latu, who I believe is going to be a special player at the NFL level. Today, I'm predicting the Colts pass rush to be the team's X factor, and I think rookie Latu will get in on the fun by recording his first regular season sack during Week 1.

The Colts put the Week 1 curse in their past once and for all

Prediction: Colts beat the Texans 31-27

Lastly, I have my score prediction for today's action. I have the Colts winning and ending their Week 1 winning drought after ten years by a score of 31 to 27. On paper, the Texans are the favorites to win this game, but I think the large number of new starters on their roster is going to lead them to make some early-season mistakes that the Colts can capitalize on and ultimately leave Week 1 with the important 1-0 record.
