Best jersey number options for the Colts' day three draft picks and one UDFA competing for a starting job in training camp
The Indianapolis Colts added eight players in the 2025 NFL Draft. Five of these came during day three of the draft between rounds four and seven. Five of these came during day three of the draft between rounds four and seven. These players enter rookie minicamp with a lot to prove as they begin their NFL careers, with the goal of showing the rest of the league they made a mistake allowing them to fall to day three. Before they take the field as members of the Colts for the first time at rookie minicamp on May 9th and 10th, each has to decide what their first NFL jersey number will be.
Jalen Travis, OT, Iowa State
Best options for Travis:
61

75

Number he should choose: 75
Jordan Travis won't be able to wear the same number he wore at Iowa State, with longtime starter Braden Smith already owning 72. And even his number at Princeton (71) has already been taken by Matt Goncalves. So Travis will have to choose a new number to begin his NFL career. If he wanted to keep the one from his number at Princeton, he could drop down into the 60s and take 61. Or if he wanted to stay in the 70s, I think the best option would be 75. When Travis changed his number after transferring to Iowa State, he elected to stay in the 70, so I think he will do the same thing this time around with the Colts.
DJ Giddens, RB, Kansas State
Best options for Giddens:
31

32

Number he should choose: 32
DJ Giddens wore 31 at Kansas State, but Tyler Goodson is currently wearing that number. It will be tougher this time around for Goodson to make the roster, so I wouldn't be shocked if Giddens took 31 later if it became available, if the number has any significant meaning for him. In the meantime, though, 32 is available and, in my opinion, has always been one of the cleanest jersey options for an RB.
Riley Leonard, QB, Notre Dame
Best options for Leonard:
9

13

Number he should choose: 13
Riley Leonard wore 13 this past year at Notre Dame, which is the number he finished his career at Duke wearing. Currently, that jersey is being worn by Laquon Treadwell, but unless the Colts have injuries pile up at the WR position, he doesn't have much of a shot to make the team's roster. So if Leonard wins the QB 3 job like the team expects, it seems fair to assume he will end up getting his number 13 jersey before the regular season gets here, even if he has to choose a placeholder number for the time being.
Tim Smith
Best options for Smith:
91

98

Number he should choose: 91
Like most of the Colts' rookie class, Tim Smith's college number is unavailable, with LB Segun Olubi wearing number 50. The Colts have a few numbers in the 90s, though available, but multiple are associated with all-time great players for the franchise, such as Dwight Freeney (93) and Robert Mathis (98). Those numbers are currently available, and players have worn those jerseys in recent years. Smith is set to compete to be the backup to Grover Stewart, who wears 90, so it seems fitting for him to choose 91 to start his career.
Hunter Wohler
Best options for Wohler:
27

45

Number he should choose: 45
Hunter Wohler is an interesting one to predict for, due to the team planning on letting him play both safety and linebacker. The Colts chose to list him as an LB on draft day. It seems safe to assume Wohler will either wear a number in the 40s or 20s. I think 45 is a number that can look solid on either position, while 27 would be great for a safety, it might look a bit strange on an LB at the NFL level.
Maddux Trujillo, K, Temple
Best options for Trujillo:
3

9

Number he should choose: 9
Last up, we have an undrafted free agent. I won't be predicting jersey numbers for all the Colts' undrafted rookies because most of them will probably end up wearing duplicate numbers on the roster due to their chances of making the team being slim at best. On the other hand, kicker Maddux Trujillo will enter training camp in a one-on-one competition with Spencer Shrader to be the Colts' starting kicker going forward. Trujillo wore 91 in college, and while that is available, I refuse to believe he will wear that at the NFL level. So I went with 9, which I think would be a very clean option for him to end up with.
Best jersey numbers that Colts TE Tyler Warren should consider wearing during his rookie season with 44 not being available
The Indianapolis Colts added eight players in the 2025 NFL Draft. Of course, the headliner of the class was their first-round pick, Tyler Warren, the star TE out of Penn State. Landing a TE who wore 44 sends fans straight down memory lane to Dallas Clark making plays repping the horseshoe. Warren won't be able […]
Best jersey numbers that Colts 2025 second-round pick JT Tuimoloau should consider wearing during his rookie season in the NFL
The Indianapolis Colts added eight players in the 2025 NFL Draft. One of them was edge rusher JT Tuimoloau in the second round, fresh off him winning a national championship with Ohio State. He now joins the Colts with a real chance at carving out a significant role as a rookie and has plenty of upside […]
