The Indianapolis Colts stayed busy during the first week of free agency, with the team making multiple notable moves to improve their roster for the 2025 season.

There are still many intriguing options available on the free agency market that the Colts could consider adding ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. One of which was recently added to the mix after being released by the Colts AFC South rivals, the Tennessee Titans.

The Colts should pursue Chibode Awuzie fresh off his release from the Titans

The Titans made a shocking move this week of moving on from Chidobe Awuzie just a year after signing him to a three-year, $36 million contract. The team is taking on $12.51 million in dead cap due to releasing the cornerback.

Last year was rough for Awuzie both on the field and in terms of his health. He was only able to appear in eight games after a groin injury he suffered in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers, and he went on to miss nine straight weeks before he returned for the team's Week 14 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He recorded his lone interception of the year in his first game back.

The Colts, on paper, seem like one of the most logical fits for Awuzie. He spent the three previous seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before joining the Titans. There, he played under Lou Anarumo as his defensive coordinator, who is now in the same role with the Colts. The team already added CB Charvarius Ward during the opening stage of free agency, so Awuzie would be able to side right in and be the favorite to win the team's second starting outside CB job.

He would give the Colts a player who knows Anarumo's scheme well and could help the team get a quicker start than previously expected. In addition to being a dynamic CB duo in coverage, the Colts would have two outside CBs who excel as tacklers, an area the Colts struggled tremendously in last season.

Of course, the question on everyone's mind would be how much would Awuzie likely cost if the Colts elected to sign him. Well, he will be getting paid well by the Titans not to suit up for them this season. This could lead Awuzie to take a smaller one-year contract in a familiar place or, in the Colts' situation, a familiar face (Anarumo). This would allow him to put up a year of solid film and show the NFL and, possibly, the team he plays for in 2025 that he does deserve another chance at a larger long-term contract, even though it didn't work out in Tennessee.
