The Indianapolis Colts’ 2025 schedule begins with a matchup against a high-powered offense in the Miami Dolphins.

There is still multiple weeks of training camp/preseason for both teams to prepare for the matchup, but the Dolphins got some unfortunate injury news that could impact the game. Their starting right tackle, Austin Jackson, is now set to miss multiple weeks due to injury.

The Dolphins’ offensive line is already an area of concern, but if Jackson has to miss anytime in the regular season, it would be a major loss. Jackson is probably the best overall lineman on the Dolphins who have gone through some big changes in the room over the past few years. They are already planning on starting rookie Jonah Savaiinaea and second-year lineman Patrick Paul. So losing Jacksons would force the Dolphins to add even more inexperience to their starting unit that has the important task of keeping QB Tua Tagovailoa healthy. Something he has struggled at significantly throughout his career to date.

Multiple players are expected to play a major role in the Colts’ edge room this season. This Dolphins matchup even with Jackson on the field, is one the team likely feels they have the advantage. But without him I’d assumed we’d see the Colts get creative in how they’d line up and more diverse in the blitz packages they’d draw up. Laiatu Latu is expected to be the top dog in the Colts’ edge room during his second NFL season. A big week one performance could set him up nicely for the sophomore leap the team is hoping he takes. Hopefully a big week one performance happens with Jackson in the lineup for the Dolphins. The Colts want their opponents at full strength, because you always want to beat teams at their best, and also it would be a more impressive outing if Latu and the teams pass rush is able to dominate a healthy Dolphins offensive line.
