The Indianapolis Colts have been without second-year wide receiver Josh Downs to start the regular season after he suffered a high ankle sprain early into training camp.
He returned to practice last week and had a chance to play, but the team decided to err on the side of caution and made him inactive for their Week 2 loss against the Green Bay Packers.
All signs now point towards Downs making his 2024 season debut in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. And if you listen to Downs, he sounds like he is 100% ready to play on Sunday.
Downs was able to practice every day last week but only logged one full practice on Friday ahead of the team's Week 2 matchup. The team allowed Downs to test his ankle during pre-game but made him inactive for the matchup to give him more time to heal.
He now has started the week right where he left off last week, with him being a full participant in practice on Wednesday. And by how Downs and the team have spoken about his chances of playing, I'm starting to think he won't even hold a questionable designation following Friday's practice.
Getting Downs back would be a big boost for a Colts offense that has struggled to put together long drives to keep their defense off the field. They have been dominated in time of possession the first two weeks of the season. Watching Downs and Anthony Richardson last season, it was evident that they have formed a special chemistry, even if they've only played limited snaps together. Look for Downs to hit the road running by retaking his starting job out of the slot, and I'd expect him to be one of Richardson's favorite targets, especially on third downs.
Things are going from bad to worse for the Indianapolis Colts struggling defense ahead of Week 3
The Indianapolis Colts' Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers felt like rock bottom for the defense. But hold your horses—it very well might get worse in the upcoming weeks. The team announced that they are placing star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on the injury reserve, which will force him to miss at least the next four […]
The Indianapolis Colts didn’t utilize Jonathan Taylor nearly enough during their Week 2 loss
The Indianapolis Colts put up a terrible performance in Week 2 and, as a result, fell to the Green Bay Packers by a score of 16 to 10. One of the only bright spots the team had on the day was from their star running back, Jonathan Taylor, who was far and away the best Colts […]
