If you have watched the Kansas City Chiefs play football in the last decade, you know their offense has been predicated on one main thing: speed.

Patrick Mahomes has led the Chiefs to new heights, reaching three Super Bowls in the last 4 years; winning two of them. And what is one thing that Mahomes had in each of those Super-bowls?

Again: speed.

In the first two, he had Tyreek Hill, who as we all know, is now on the Miami Dolphins.

In the latest one, Mecole Hardman helped the team get there, but was out due to injury so he was unable to play.

What do Mecole and Tyreek both have in common? They both run sub 4.35; oh and they both no longer play on the Chiefs.

Mecole recently agreed to a deal with the New York Jets, meaning the Chiefs no longer have a sub 4.35 threat on their team.

Now the Chiefs do still have one deep threat on their team in Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and he comes close to fitting the mold as he ran a 4.37. However, the Chiefs have operated in the past with multiple deep threats on their team.

One analyst did his best attempt to keep that going. In his latest mock draft, Charles Davis has the Chiefs selecting Tennessee wide receiver, Jalin Hyatt.

Now Hyatt didn't test as fast as 4.35, but many were surprised by that number and are not worried due to his play speed.

The Chiefs had 48 targets as a team of 20+ air yards or more in 2022. In Knoxville, Hyatt was targeted 27% of the time on those throws and he led the Volunteers with 24 targets of 20+ air yards.

Hyatt can step in and fill Hardman's role. There's also Justin Watson, who is currently a free agent. Watson was the team's deep threat opposite MVS with Hardman out. There's obviously still plenty of time for the Chiefs to re-sign Watson, but Hyatt would help alleviate that missing piece if Watson were to ever sign elsewhere.
