There is no higher bar of quarterback play in the NFL than with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The tone is set by, of course, three-time Super Bowl MVP and two-time regular season MVP Patrick Mahomes. Part of what makes Mahomes great is his work ethic. Be it a game, practice or workouts, Mahomes brings an elite level of energy and focus to everything he does.

That standard has also rubbed off of his backups over the years. Guys like Chad Henne and Matt Moore have been called on to perform in key situations and have delivered. The Chiefs have now turned to nine-year veteran Carson Wentz to be their No. 2 QB, and he has already been blown away from what he's seen from Mahomes during OTAs.

"You know, I mean, this time of year, it's different for everybody," Wentz said about Mahomes. But I mean just seeing him live in practice. I mean, he just processes the game really quick. And you can see that coming in. But he calls protections, he's in and out of the huddle, he's throwing anticipatory throws, like all that stuff, all that stuff you see from afar, but it's just fun to (actually) see it. And you know, in some respect, just see different windows on plays that maybe you didn't see before, because he's just playing so quick out there. So, it's fun. It's fun to see from back there."

How impressively quickly Mahomes is able to process things on the field is something that we've heard from many of his teammates and coaches over the years. That can be an intimidating thing for someone who plays the same position as Mahomes, but it also sets a great example as Wentz continues to pick up the offense.

Wentz shouldn't have too much trouble mastering Kansas City's offense after playing for former Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson for five years with the Philadelphia Eagles. Wentz's skillset as a mobile and timing passer is a natural fit for coach Andy Reid's West Coast/spread offense.

After losing out on him to the Los Angeles Rams last year, the Chiefs signed Wentz to a one-year deal this past offseason. He started one game for the Rams last year, defeating the NFC champion San Fransisco 49ers in Week 18. Wentz has thrown for 2,292 yards in his career with a 62.7 completion percentage and a 153-67 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
