The Kansas City Chiefs currently have three Day 2 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft (No. 63, 66, and 95), allowing them to address multiple areas throughout their roster.

One position they could look at is cornerback. The Chiefs don't have a lot of quality depth there behind Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, and neither of those two are currently under contract with Kansas City past the 2025 season.

A draft prospect who could fit the bill for what the Chiefs like in a CB is Trey Amos out of Mississippi. He has perfect size for a defensive back at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, and possesses 4.4 40-yard dash speed with good footwork.

Amos has had success at the highest collegiate level, as he was named First-Team All-SEC in 2024. While speaking at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine last week, Amos answered some question that piqued my interest in regards to him being a fit for the Chiefs.

Here's what he said when asked what aspects of his game will best translate to the NFL, and what area he needs to improve in:

"My best skill is my man coverage, just getting hands on wide receivers and just being able to like just do my thing – just go out there and just compete," Amos said. "And I feel like I just need to improve tackling, just taking better angles. I feel like that’s how I can improve being a cornerback. I feel like my man coverage and my zone coverage have all gotten better."

Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo plays more man coverage than most of the league, so Amos specializing in that area is a big plus. Amos was honest in admitting that he needs to improve his tackling, but that is something that is very coachable.

K.C. has had a track record of DBs who tackle well in recent years. Amos believes that the physicality that he plays with in coverage will help him improve as a tackler.

"These past two months, I wanted to get stronger at the point of attack, and I feel like that’s really going to help me be a better tackler in this league, because you’ve got to get the man down," Amos said.

He was also asked what his best attributes are:

"Just my positive vibes and competing with them to go harder in practice, in the games – just being hungry," Amos said. "I feel like that’s what I’d bring to a team and make it better."

Having good practice habits is must when playing for Chiefs coach Andy Reid, and is one of the underrated reasons why K.C. has been so successful under his tutelage. It seems like Amos not only fits the Chiefs' mold physically, but also mentally. Our A to Z Sports mock draft database currently gives him a median pick range of 61, so he could be available when they pick at 63 or 66.
