Chiefs’ Week 1 matchup vs. Chargers may have just gotten a little tougher following recent roster move by Los Angeles
The Chiefs’ defense will have to deal with another Chargers’ weapon.
We are 10 days away from the Chiefs kicking off their 2025 season against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil.
That matchup may have just gotten a little tougher for Kansas City, as the Chargers activated running back Najee Harris from the non-football injury list on Tuesday, making him eligible to play in Week 1.
Harris missed the entirety of training camp and preseason following an eye injury that he sustained in a fireworks incident on July 4. However, he has been training apart from the team with an athletic trainer.
Harris coming off the NFI list doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll play in Week 1, but the Chargers have the option should they choose to do so. Rookie Omarion Hampton has been the lead RB in place of Harris, and may not give the starting role up as he is entering the season with a lot of hype.
Los Angeles signed Harris to a one-year contract during the offseason. He spent the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Harris has been one of the most underrated RBs since entering the league, rushing for over 1,000 yards in all four years played.
The Chiefs were solid against the run in 2024, ranking eighth in the NFL in rush defense. They have returned most players in their defensive front seven, so they should be able to carry that success over in 2025. While Harris could give the Chargers a boost, they took a huge blow when All-Pro left tackle sustained a season-ending patella injury earlier this month.
