The Los Angeles Chargers are going to be very beat up when they host the Kansas City Chiefs next week.

The Chargers suffered many key injuries during their 20-10 Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, quarterback Justin Herbert being first and foremost. Herbert actually entered the day already hurting with a high ankle sprain.

He left the game during the third quarter after aggravating it while taking a sack and was spotted wearing a walking boot afterwards. Herbert probably should have sat this week out, especially against a dominant Steelers' front seven.

The injuries continued to pile up for Los Angeles with starting offensive tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt both exiting the game without returning. Slater left late in the second quarter with a pectoral injury and Alt limped off with what was described as a leg injury. That's about as rough as it can get for the Chargers' offense as most would agree that Herbert, Slater and Alt are its best players.

Defensively for L.A., star pass rusher Joey Bosa aggravated a hip injury on his very first snap of the game and did not return. Bosa has been dealing with hip issues since the beginning of the young season and was limited last week against the Carolina Panthers. Bosa has had an extensive injury history throughout his nine-year career.

It looks like the injury bug is rearing its ugly head again for the Chargers in 2024, which has seemed like a yearly certainly over the last decade-plus. Whether or not any of the players injured today will miss the matchup against the Chiefs remains to be seen, but to be ailing this bad so early in the season has to be a defeating feeling.

Kansas City has dealt with injuries of its own in 2024 with wide receiver Hollywood Brown and running back Isiah Pacheco going on injured reserve for the foreseeable future. The Chiefs are banking on rookie Xavier Worthy and the returning Kareem Hunt to step up. K.C.'s matchup against the Chargers will be its first AFC West divisional game of the season.
