In the hours leading up to Super Bowl LVII, a report by FOX's Jay Glazer took over the NFL as the insider indicated Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid hadn't ruled out retirement if he was able to win his second-ever championship ring.
"Listen, if they'll have me, I'll stick around," Reid told The Washington Postfollowing the win.
But according to Chiefs general manager Brett Veach, it was never even a conversation between Reid and the team.
"I think that was total speculation," Veach told The Pat McAfee Showon Tuesday. "I'd like to think that other than his wife Tammy, I don't think anybody talks to coach (Reid) and knows coach as much as I do."
"That has never come up," added the Chiefs GM. "I think he has so much to offer still."
Reid also told reporters later on Tuesday that he was asked about a potential retirement about 100 times so when Glazer asked he probably didn't give a clear answer.
"It wasn't a yes or no answer, I guess," the Chiefs HC told reporters. "So it came across maybe that way. That's not what I was (saying)."
The question now becomes how much time will Reid stick around. With Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, the Chiefs can remain a Super Bowl contender for years to come.
But as the two-time Super Bowl champion head coach nears his 65th birthday, this conversation will likely take place on a yearly basis regardless of how each season comes to an end.
