The Kansas City Chiefs do not appear poised to make a change at the right tackle position heading into Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Chiefs RT Jawaan Taylor once again has penalty troubles, tied for the league lead in penalties through the first three weeks of the 2025 NFL season. He was on the injury report last week with knee/ankle injuries, raising the question of whether he’s truly healthy.

Asked by Chiefs Digest’s Matt Derrick on Wednesday if he has complete confidence in Taylor’s health due to ankle and knee injuries, Reid emphasized that Taylor’s strengths lie in his ability to pass block.

“You know, when he doesn’t have the penalties, his percentage has been good,” Reid said. “So, you know, one of the… you could argue, he’s one of the better tackles in his pass protection game, so I’m conscious of that, and then I’ll take care of it from there.”

You can’t simply dismiss the penalties for Taylor, as they’ve been a constant presence during his time with the team. Chiefs OC Matt Nagy recently stated that the penalties cannot happen. Reid’s comments, however, do seem to indicate that Taylor’s ability as a pass-blocker is enough of a redeeming quality to keep him on the field and keep swing tackle Jaylon Moore on the sidelines.

Chiefs RT Jawaan Taylor hasn’t allowed a sack so far this season

While Taylor hasn’t been credited with a sack this season, he’s one of a half-dozen NFL players to allow three quarterback hits through the first three games of the season. That might be different if it weren’t for Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes improving a key facet of his game. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Mahomes leads the NFL in average time-to-throw at 2.51 seconds. He’s getting rid of the ball more quickly than he has at any point in his career, which is protecting his offensive line in some cases.
