The Kansas City Chiefs had big plans for WR Kadarius Toney during the 2023 NFL season, but they've found themselves in a familiar tale.

The biggest concern when the team acquired Toney from the New York Giants in 2022 was the injury-prone label that followed him around to that point. The Chiefs got a taste of that in 2022 after he suffered a hamstring injury against the Los Angeles Chargers just a few weeks after his arrival in Kansas City. Now, they're getting another taste.

Speaking to media members on Monday, a week prior to their "Monday Night Football" matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke about the expectations for Toney in the second half of the season.

"Yeah, just keep coming with him," Reid said of Toney. "I just want to remind everybody, he did have knee surgery. So we're taking it easy with him up to this point. Just making sure he can make it through the year in good health."

Toney has appeared on the injury report with three different injuries this season. He suffered a meniscus injury that knocked him out for the entirety of training camp and required him to have a knee scope. It resulted in a disastrous Week 1 performance.

He also had a turf toe injury that limited him in the early goings of the season. Most recently, he appeared on the injury report with a wrist injury.

In Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins, Toney played his second-fewest snaps on offense in a single game this season

"He played seven plays last week (Week 9 vs. Dolphins)," Reid said. "We can play him more than that and we'd be OK. We just keep an eye on his leg and make sure we're reppin' that out the right way and make sure he's progressing throughout the year. That's the important part."

The truth of the matter is that Toney is dealing with what he's dealt with for the majority of his professional career, which is injury-related troubles. The Chiefs see the value in trying to keep him as fresh and healthy as possible because they've already seen just how deadly he can be in the right moments.
