Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke to reporters after the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, providing the latest update on WR Rashee Rice's knee injury.
The Chiefs lost Rice for the Week 4 game against the Chargers to a knee injury that appeared to come from friendly fire in a post-fumble scrum. He limped off the field, was in the blue medical tent for moments, and was carted to the locker room for X-ray and other imaging. Rice was ruled questionable by the team and within minutes they ruled him out for the remainder of the game.
Reid spoke to CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson ahead of halftime and he told her the injury news on Rice wasn't good. After the game, he elaborated on his comments, explaining that Rice appears to have suffered a significant knee injury. They'll have an MRI in Kansas City to confirm, but it appears they're expecting the worst, a season-ending ACL injury.
"Rashee will have his knee checked out tomorrow with an MRI," Reid told reporters after the game. "It's his knee, and I think, we'll have to wait and see, but I'm sure it's not as good of news as we want, but we'll see how it goes."
Heading into the Week 4 game, Rice was the Chiefs' leading receiver with 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Now, they'll have to rely on the depth of the position in his absence.
On the 53-man roster, the Chiefs have the following receivers:
- Xavier Worthy
- Justin Watson
- JuJu Smith-Schuster
- Mecole Hardman
- Skyy Moore.
Worthy finished as the team's leading wide receiver on Sunday, with three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown. He had a crucial 15-yard reception to ice the 17-10 win, which could be a major confidence-builder for the rookie.
On the practice squad, the Chiefs have these players they could sign or elevate:
- Montrell Washington
- Justyn Ross
- Nikko Remigio
Remember, the Chiefs are already expected to miss WR Hollywood Brown for the entirety of the 2024 regular season.
