KANSAS CITY – Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Thursday that wide receiver and Pro Bowl returner Mecole Hardman tweaked a hamstring during Wednesday's OTAs session.
"Mecole [Hardman] is one of the ones, he tweaked a hamstring earlier yesterday," Reid told reporters during his press conference.
It's still May, so this is obviously not a huge deal. But, it's still interesting because the Chiefs -especially Reid- really need Hardman in 2022. The loss of Tyreek Hill has left a massive void on the offense and Hardman is expected to help replace the All-Pro's production.
Fortunately, the Chiefs added to their receiver room -with the help of Reid- so, everything isn't on Hardman's shoulders in 2022.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Skyy Moore were added through free agency and the draft, respectively. All three are expected to come in and help Patrick Mahomes keep the Chiefs offense among the league's best.
A hamstring injury can be fickle, especially for receivers and other skill players. Hardman's status will certainly be something to monitor moving forward. But for now, it's best to consider it innocuous.
Thursday's OTAs session marks the final of the week. The Chiefs will resume their offseason program on Tuesday, May 31.
