The Kansas City Chiefs made a great pick to end the 2023 NFL Draft at pick number 31, and their head coach explains why it was the perfect fit for them.

Besides the whole fact that Felix Anudike-Uzomah is from Kansas City and played at Kansas State, he is indeed the perfect fit. Sure, he may not have been exactly what the Chiefs wanted in terms of the position, but the way the board fell ended up being better for the Chiefs.

Coming into the draft I think, and this is just my opinion, the Chefs wanted to target a receiver in the first round because of this draft class. They either wanted to do that or draft a tackle. But, they were able to get one of the best pure pass rushers in the draft instead to help build for the future.

Andy Reid loves the pick and felt like it was the perfect one for the Chiefs.

"Felix is a heck of a player," Reid started in his post-draft presser. "He's also a KC native, so we appreciate that part of it, too. When you're picking right there at 31, you take the best player available. He was that guy… We love his ability to rush the passer and play the run. He can do both… (Joe Cullen) loved him. (Steve Spagnuolo) loved him. I think he'll definitely be able to help us right away. "We thought we could use another defensive lineman. He fits into that."

They have high praise for him and possibly think he could be a part of an elite edge rusher duo in Kansas City with George Karlaftis. Now the Chiefs have two edge rushers on rookie deals that are both quality, good players. Not to mention they have two guys on the outside to put next to Chris Jones and Charles Omenihu.

Reid loves the fact that Anudike-Uzomah can play the rune game too. The Chiefs need a pass rush, sure, but the fact that he can do both is what truly makes him special. Reid and Veach believe this kid can be special.
