Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid shares injury updates on two key defenders after Week 2 loss to Philadelphia Eagles
Chiefs HC Andy Reid had injury updates on Mike Danna and Kristian Fulton after the Week 2 loss to the Eagles.
The Kansas City Chiefs fell 20-17 to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, but the Super Bowl rematch wasn’t the only thing lost in this game.
In the first quarter, the Chiefs lost defenders Mike Danna and Kristian Fulton to injury. Danna left the field with what was being described as a hip injury. Fulton left the field with an ankle injury. Both players were eventually ruled out of the game with their respective injuries.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided a brief injury update on Danna and Fulton. The injury to Danna was no longer described as a hip injury, but instead as a quad injury.
“As far as the injuries go, Mike Danna tweaked his left quad,” Reid said. “And (Kristian) Fulton tweaked his ankle there. We’ll just see how, how that is going forward.”
Chiefs rookies stepped up with Mike Danna, Kristian Fulton ruled out
Danna dealt with a quad injury briefly last season, but he also missed time due to a calf injury and a pectoral injury, four games in total. He appeared in just 13 regular-season games, with 12 starts, last season due to injury. It’s an unfortunate trend developing for a versatile player, known as one of the strongest members of the team. Fulton’s ankle injury is a newer development, but he has already missed a lot of time this offseason due to a knee injury.
Rookie DE Ashton Gillotte was on the field often in place of Danna, alongside Charles Omenihu, but the edge rushers left something to be desired in the Week 2 loss. As for rookie CB Nohl Williams, he made two big third-down plays in coverage against Eagles WR A.J. Brown. Those two will be needed to step up again as the team navigates injuries to two veteran defensive contributors heading into Week 3 against the New York Giants. Thankfully, it sounds as if they’ll have some help on offense back for that game.
