Even though it may not feel like it after the Kansas City Chiefs lose embarrassingly to the Tennessee Titans, this team has chemistry and a bond that just cannot be broken. And, even after this loss, you see that with guys like quarterback Patrick Mahomes congratulating backup quarterback Chris Oladokun on his first game this season and his first career completion.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes sends a text message to backup QB Chris Oladokun

“Dude, I checked my phone, he [Patrick Mahomes] was the first dude that texted me,” Oladokun told reporters after the game. “He’s the first dude to help someone out and lend a helping hand. In past preseasons and stuff like that, he’s always in the QB’s ear, whether it’s me or Gardner [Minshew]. Everyone misses his presence.

“Not only me in the QB room, but the whole building back in Kansas City. We go off of 15. He’s doing his best right now, and I already know he’s going to come back 100% next year… I opened my phone, and he’s the first one I saw; that’s just the type of guy he is. We have gotten really close over the last few years, and I don’t have a big brother, so in a way, he’s taken over a big brother role for me. He’s like that with everyone.”

That is what happens when you play so much football together. Sure, Oladokun played his first-ever regular-season game on Sunday. However, he’s practiced with this team and played in preseason games for the last four years. This team has been to three Super Bowls in a row and won two of them, so the chemistry there will be strong.

The Chiefs lost, there’s no way around it, or nothing to really be happy about other than them getting a better draft pick. However, seeing the team rally, or attempt to rally, around Oladokun speaks volumes to that chemistry. That’s also a huge reason the backup quarterback was able to make some of the plays he did.
