Chiefs’ biggest rival couldn’t believe what he was seeing with the officiating in KC’s loss to the Cowboys

The Chiefs got some bad calls against them when playing the Cowboys, and Charles Woodson noticed it, too.

Thursday may have been the dagger loss that the Kansas City Chiefs needed to end their season. Things can still play out in their favor, but the offseason may come as early as it ever has in Kansas City during this era of football. But Thursday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys was painful to watch — officiating was a major reason.

The officiating was heavily in favor of the Cowboys, but it was so bad all around. Specifically, the way they called the game on the Chiefs’ defensive backs was maddening, and even one of the Chiefs’ biggest rivals of all time thinks the same.

“I’m sorry, but if the receiver gets to push you upfield to come back to the ball, the DB (defensive back) should be allowed to grab the receiver to stop that momentum,” former Raiders defensive back Charles Woodson tweeted out near the end of the game.

Chiefs couldn’t do anything with CeeDee Lamb or George Pickens

The Chiefs were in hell on defense Thursday, not only because they couldn’t get a stop on third down to save their lives, but also because whenever they tried to fight back with the same intensity Dallas was giving them, they were penalized. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were pushing off a ton, and it felt like Trent McDuffie was the one getting called for that when the momentum was not going his way.

Lamb and Pickens are the best receiver duo in the league, and they showed why. But the officiating didn’t allow the Chiefs to showcase their defensive strength, and McDuffie’s poor game could have been better with more leeway.

However, the officiating was not the reason Kansas City lost the game. They couldn’t get off the field on third down defensively, and they couldn’t convert third down offensively. That’s an issue, no matter how well your quarterback plays, and he played pretty well, all things considered.
