The Kansas City Chiefs might not be finished making moves ahead of the NFL's trade deadline, but the clock is ticking.
If Chiefs GM Brett Veach has any more moves up his sleeve, he'll have to make them happen before Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 3:00 p.m. CT. The latest news comes from ESPN's Adam Schefter, who revealed over the weekend that Kansas City had called Saints Pro Bowl CB Marshon Lattimore.
"The Saints have gotten calls about Marshon Lattimore, according to league sources. One of the potential holdups of a deal is Lattimore's health, sources said. The four-time Pro Bowl cornerback is not playing Sunday against the Panthers, but it hasn't stopped teams from calling about him, including the two-time defending champion Chiefs."
This isn't the only smoke indicating that the Chiefs might still be looking to add a cornerback to their room ahead of the deadline, and where there's smoke there's always fire. Here's a look at Lattimore and four more cornerbacks who could be available for Kansas City.
Saints CB Marshon Lattimore
Lattimore is probably the most decorated player who has a chance to be available. We already know that the Chiefs have been snooping around here. With things going south in New Orleans after their Week 9 loss to the Panthers, the Saints could be inclined to listen on Lattimore. They have one of the worst salary-cap situations in the NFL, so shedding some bigger contracts at the trade deadline could be a wise move. As for Kansas City, they need to be comfortable with his health (hamstring) and performance (8 receptions allowed on 14 targets with two passes defended) The former 2017 NFL draft pick would cost just over $1.2 million in salary cap to obtain.
Dolphins CB Kendall Fuller
There aren't many veteran options that would make sense for Kansas City, but this one might make a bit of sense. Fuller was part of the Super Bowl LIV team for the Chiefs after the team acquired him in the Alex Smith trade back in 2018. The 29-year-old mostly played safety and nickel for Kansas City, but this year he has played 312 of his 358 defensive snaps at wide cornerback and over 28% of those snaps in man coverage. Familiarity has been a theme for the Chiefs this season, and even though he's several years removed from the system, he should be able to slot back in for Steve Spagnuolo.
Browns CB Greg Newsome II
A season ago, Newsome looked like one of the best young corners in football with 14 passes broken up and two interceptions. As it goes with the Browns, this year has been a struggle, and Newsome seems to be one of the players to suffer for it. A to Z Sports' Brandon Little says that at times Newsome has been "borderline unplayable" for the Browns in 2024. His saving grace has been his inside/outside versatility, though he's played mostly in the slot. If the Chiefs were to acquire Newsome, they'd almost certainly be banking on the fact that he'd return to form in Kansas City.
Patriots CB Jonathan Jones
The Chiefs already managed one trade with the Patriots this season (Joshua Uche), so why not go back to the well? Jones has played nearly 44% of his snaps in man coverage this season. He's been targeted just 12 times, allowing eight receptions for 111 yards and one touchdown according to PFF. He's forced multiple incomplete passes on the year and has turned the ball over via forced fumble as well. If New England is willing to deal, Jones could really help Kansas City.
