The Kansas City Chiefs had a very good stretch of play on both sides of the ball against the Denver Broncos. When they were up 27-0, both the defense and offense were firing on all cylinders.

Yeah, it didn't stay that way for long, but that shows that the defense and offense can both be good at the same time, and not one or the other like they have been for a large part of the season.

I mean, heck, we saw the defense get their first pick-six since Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers when Jaylen Watson returned an interception on Justin Herbert for 99 yards. Both were against division rivals, and both were pretty nice plays, too.

"It was really a blitz, and I realized what kind of play it was," Willie Gay said when asked about his scoring play on defense. "They were just trying to bring me down so they can get it over my head. I wasn't going to blitz, you know, to the quarterback.

"I was going to get my hand up and that's what I did and luckily it came right to me once I knocked it down. After that, I just knew I had to make Russ (Wilson) miss and the rest was you know, to the end zone."

And if you watch the playback, it does look like Willie Gay stunts a blitz, and then backs up as if he realizes it in that split second that the Broncos were trying to bait him. But, it didn't work, and he took it to the house.

He was then asked if he knew he would have enough energy after doing all that work to take it back to the end zone.

"Oh yeah, I was an athlete all throughout high school, so, I knew I was going to be able to get there," Gay said jokingly.

Not only did that play take the score to 27-0, but it was also a fourth down stop. Even if he hadn't made the catch, the Chiefs would still be in a good position.

The Chiefs' defense was playing its tail off during that stretch, and this play was one that was fun to watch, that I didn't expect to happen.

Remember back in the offseason when Gay said he has gotten better at reading offenses as a defense, and his IQ has only improved? Yeah, we are seeing that now with this play.

Willie Gay Jr. is proving himself right.

“I feel like it’s been pretty good,” Gay said when asked about his season. “If I look at myself personally, I feel like I’m getting better each and every week. Of course, there are things I can fix here and there. Of course, there are going to be mistakes that I make. But [the] all-around game, I feel like it’s getting better. I’m back in that rhythm. It’s Week 14 now. We’re rolling.”

Rolling indeed. The Chiefs' defense made some huge plays on Sunday against the Broncos, but none bigger than the one Gay made. He has truly gotten better and could be blossoming into a young star.

Don't forget, he is just in his third season. There is still so much potential that is being untapped, as he continues to prove himself right.
