The Kansas City Chiefs are set to make their home debut on Saturday against the Cleveland Browns in preseason Week 3. They're sure to get a warm reception from the Chiefs Kingdom as this will be the first game that they've played since their Super Bowl LVII win.
While championships will be on the minds of several veterans, other players have a very important game ahead of them. Preseason Week 3 is the last true opportunity for players to impress the coaches and personnel staff with their performance and play. That means it's do-or-die for several players when it comes to their chances of making the 53-man roster.
Below you'll find a quick look at four of the players who need to have a big game:
RB Deneric Prince

Even though Matt Nagy has said that nothing has happened to impact Prince’s roster standing, it’s clear that he’s fallen down the depth chart at both running back and return specialist. La’Mical Perine received snaps ahead of him last week and performed very well. All it takes is one big performance to vault a player like Prince back ahead in what appears to be a close race. He’ll need to take full advantage of that opportunity both on offense and special teams in preseason Week 3. Pass protection might be the key for both players.

RG Darian Kinnard

Kinnard was on the roster bubble last year, but he made it onto the 53-man roster by the skin of his teeth. Brett Veach told reporters that he played his way onto the roster with his performance in the final weeks of practice and in the preseason finale. He’s shown growth and improvement playing along the interior offensive line this offseason, but he can really cap it off with an impressive showing against Cleveland in preseason Week 3.

QB Blaine Gabbert

Reid confirmed this past week that there is, in fact, a battle for the No. 2 QB job. He said that Shane Buechele and Gabbert are “real close.” Gabbert is coming off of a game where he could hardly perform better. He had a perfect passer rating and only one incomplete pass. He needs to be just as perfect down the stretch or he might wind up as the No. 3 QB in Kansas City.

DE Joshua Kaindoh

Kaindoh needs a big game in the worst possible way. According to Pro Football Focus, through two preseason games, Kaindoh has recorded no pressures on 38 pass-rushing snaps. Lack of production has been a huge problem throughout his Chiefs career. He doesn’t have any official statistics in his few opportunities to play over the past two seasons. In order to make the team he’s really going to need to show out in the preseason finale.
