Kansas City Chiefs DB Chamarri Conner missed his second consecutive practice on Wednesday after suffering a pretty brutal-looking concussion during the Week 15 win over the Cleveland Browns

On Tuesday, Chiefs HC Andy Reid said that Conner is doing well after delivering and getting a "wallop" in the game. Still, without any practice this week, the team is trending toward being without their second-year defensive back on Saturday against the Houston Texans.

Conner's lump of coal might turn out to be an early Christmas gift for another young Chiefs defender, though. Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo discussed the in-game adjustments made at nickel corner after Conner was hurt in Week 15. He also revealed that one player stands to benefit in Conner's absence.

"Yeah, in the middle of the game, we had to get somebody in there who had gotten some reps," Spags told reporters. "Trent [McDuffie] always gets nickel reps. He did it last year. He doesn't need many. But during the week, if we do a walk-through, he always gets them. And Chris Roland-Wallace gets them as well. And so those are the two guys that, I mean, Chris will get the boatload of it, and we'll see where it goes from there. But we've got a couple of different things we're kind of working on, looking at. You know, when you have injuries, we've got to find a solution. So, there'll be some things we'll have to do if we don't have Chamarri [Conner]."

While McDuffie will get a few snaps at the nickel every week, Chiefs fans should expect to see undrafted DB Christian Roland-Wallace more frequently in Week 16 against the Texans. He played 17 defensive snaps in Conner's absence against the Browns, recording three total tackles and a tackle for loss on Jameis Winston. Roland-Wallace has played 86 total defensive snaps this season. You might recall that he got his first career interception back in Week 7 against the 49ers.

You never want to see a player hurt, but the lump of coal for Conner is an opportunity for Roland-Wallace. The rookie will have a chance to prove himself for Kansas City. He's already proven to be a playmaker with top-notch instincts. They'll need to rely on those this week, with a very talented array of Houston Texans receivers coming to visit GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
