The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions again, and they did it by dominating on defense throughout the whole season and locking up a bit before Patrick Mahomes absolutely took over in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Chris Jones is one of the best defensive players in the league and probably the best defensive tackle in the league and was a huge reason the defense was able to do what they did against the San Francisco 49ers. He didn't have the numbers in this game, but he was putting constant pressure on Brock Purdy all game long.
This offseason, he missed training camp and even Week 1 of the season because he was holding out due to a contractual disagreement with the team. He got a new one-year deal and is set to be a free agent this offseason if the Chiefs choose not to tag him.
He has said before this season that this could be his last year with the Chiefs, but after the Super Bowl win, he sounded a bit different.
"I told Clark Hunt; they got to keep me here so we can keep this thing going," Chris Jones said on the ESPN set. "We got something special brewing here. We have a lot of young guys that continue to get better throughout the year. [Isiah Pacheco] going into his third year, and with guys like that, we can continue to carry this thing, man."
According to A to Z Sports' free agency projections, Jones is projected to have a deal similar to four years, $110 million, $27.5 million APY, and $65 million fully guaranteed. The Chiefs have a tough decision to make this offseason because L'Jarius Sneed will also be due some money. Will one of them take a pay cut so both can return? Will one leave and one return? Or will both leave?
We still don't know, but it's pretty clear Jones wants to come back.
Charvarius Ward claims being on the 49ers is better than winning Super Bowls with the Chiefs
The Chiefs have won two Super Bowls in the last four years.
