They say big-time players perform in big-time games and there is no reason to expect anything different today. I mean, it is the Super Bowl after all.

One player who the San Francisco 49ers better be planning for every time he is on the field is Kansas City Chiefs DT Chris Jones.

Jones doesn’t have a sack incentive that he can hit in the Super Bowl, but there is one monetary reason to expect him to perform on the biggest stage of them all.

In March, Jones will become a free agent. Our cap experts at A to Z Sports don’t project that Jones will be franchise-tagged, teams are going to have a shot at signing him to a huge deal.

Expect Jones to receive a deal that looks like this:

  • 4 years, $110 million, $27.5 million APY, $65 million fully GTD
  • Year One Cap Hit: $13 million

On the season, Jones has 10.5 sacks and had a sack in nine of 13 regular season games played. With free agency around the corner, expect Jones to give one last big showing on the biggest stage in front of potential suitors.

Brock Purdy has been sacked multiple times by playoff teams as of late, as you can see in the graphic below. There is no reason not to expect Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to turn up the pressure, it is something the Chiefs do a ton of.

Additionally for the Chiefs, they’ll be trying to win a Super Bowl without DL Charles Omenihu, who is now healing from a torn ACL.

If you’re into betting, taking a look at the props around Jones is not a bad idea. He has multiple reasons to go and put on a show in what very well could be his last game in a Chiefs uniform.
