On Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, one Kansas City Chiefs' superstar made himself some money, and no, that's not a metaphor for how he played. He literally made a ton of money based on one play.
I think it is safe to say that Chris Jones is cementing himself as a solid Defensive Player of the Year candidate now. Like a very serious one at that.
In his contract, he had an incentive, which basically means a bonus if he achieves something the franchise puts in writing, to get 10 sacks on the season.
Against the Rams, the defensive line was dominating, the sack numbers may not look how they should based on the way I'm describing it, but Bryce Perkins was constantly forced out of the packet and hit into the ground.
Jones, doing what he does, was able to bring Perkins to the ground once, and when he did, one of his agents tweeted out what seemed to be the grand prize for Jones winning the lottery.
Jones deserves every penny of his 1.25 million bonus. Heck, if he never got another sack the rest of the year, while that would be somewhat disappointing, he would still deserve it.
He is playing at another level right now, and after the game, he should be yelling out a famous J.G. Wentworth line.
"It's my money and I need it now."
